A scholarly journal thrives on its peer review process whereby manuscripts submitted to the journal are reviewed for originality, novelty and contribution to the existing literature, scientific or otherwise. This is true for the. In this context, the editorial board, by its very definition, provides the expertise and counsel, assesses submitted articles for their depth and validates the quality of research by their review.Membership in a journals editorial board provides networking opportunities, an opportunity to sharpen ones own writing skills and an opportunity to learn about cutting-edge research. I am very fortunate to be able to call upon a very capable advisory board.

Prior to the2022 PDA/FDA Joint Regulatory Conferencein Washington, DC, the JPST Editorial Board met on Sunday, 11 September. A hybrid meeting, some of us met at PDA headquarters in Bethesda, MD, while others joined in remotely. The technology worked. We had a lively discussion around different aspects of the PDA JPST submission process and the time from submission to publication of an accepted manuscript. There was a unanimous agreement on reducing the time it takes to review a given manuscript. Several of the board members offered to solicit research articles and recommend future reviewers from their professional network. I look forward to it already.

PDA President Richard Johnsons 2022 Message

2021 was a challenging year for everyone, and PDA was not an exception. Last year at this time I shared the impact that the pandemic had on PDA in 2020. We were looking forward to a brighter 2021, and in some ways it was better. Vaccines for COVID were developed, proven, and released in record speed, and our community had a significant role in making that possible.

We also brought together industry, suppliers and regulators in a joint effort to address these challenges. Nonetheless, the pandemic continued throughout 2021 and into the present year. We have had positive signs, followed by resurgence of infections and the resulting societal and human impact. For PDA, it had the effect of making us postpone our return to in-person gatherings, and shift (again) to all-virtual. Of more importance has been the staggering human cost, that as of January 27, 2022, has resulted in over 5.5 million deaths, and more than 364 million cases worldwide. In addition to the terrible health impacts, the control measures that are continuing to be implemented have affected many more peoples livelihood and social activity.
